Name: Mimi Tachikawa
Series: Digimon Adventure
Timeline: Near the end of episode 28, right before the children enter the gate back to Japan.
Canon Resource Links: http://digimon.wikia.com/wiki/Mimi_Tachikawa Note that the personality information here is mainly based on the dub, which greatly exaggerates several of Mimi's negative traits. I'm playing her from the original Japanese version.

Personality:
At first glance, Mimi Tachikawa seems like your average 10-year-old girl. But at second glance, it turns out... she is your average 10-year-old girl. And that's what makes her so special.
Let's back up. When Mimi gets sucked into another world along with six kids she only vaguely knows, the other six adapt remarkably well to the new situations they find themselves in. Mimi... doesn't. Some of the other Chosen Children (as the seven of them are known) are a shounen hero-type, a boy who's unusually mature for his age, and a computer whiz. Mimi is, by contrast, really just a normal kid.
Part of what makes Mimi more realistic than some of the other kids is that she's a bit spoiled. Perhaps the kinder way to put it would be that she's accustomed to being treated well. She is always the first to complain about how much the children have been walking, because she's not used to physical exertion. She also seems unused to doing chores. Whenever the kids come across a place in the Digital World that offers some of the comforts of home, Mimi heads straight for the bath. She likes nice things, in short.
This preference for luxury is taken to the extreme in canon when Mimi encounters a group of Digimon who treat her like a princess. The power immediately goes to her head, and Mimi is soon making whatever outrageous demands she can think of while ignoring the very real need to find the rest of the group, who are at this point scattered. This culminates in her throwing several of her friends in jail, including her own partner, Palmon. This selfish state does not, thankfully, last - a well-timed intervention causes her to remember what is truly important to her - but Mimi does have this capacity in her.
She doesn't have a lot of tolerance for stressful situations. Her default reaction to a new situation in the Digital World is "No more! I'm sick of this!" She is primarily motivated by a desire to get back home. And she hates fighting. She gets upset even when her friends are arguing among themselves, so full-on monster battling? Takes her a while to get used to.
It should also be pointed out that Mimi is somewhat eccentric and childish. When it begins to snow in the middle of summer, her only thought is "How romantic!" She is revealed to have brought a whole bag of survival tools to camp, which, while they prove useful in the Digital World, are a little bit overkill for a day camp. She likes her eggs with sugar and natto (fermented soybeans). She's just a little bit weird.
None of this is to say, however, that Mimi's a bad person! Quite the opposite. Along their journey, each of the Chosen Children receives a Crest: a symbol of the trait that most defines them. Mimi's is the Crest of Sincerity, which has also been translated as the Crest of Purity. Whatever you want to call it, the idea behind the Crest is that Mimi is true to herself. She says what she thinks and expresses her emotions honestly. And her heart, almost always, is in the right place.
Additionally, at the point I'm taking her from, she's starting to improve on her flaws, particularly her self-centeredness. Before they pass through the gate back to the real world, she begins one of her "I want to go home" whines, then abruptly changes her tune: "I've been whining like that all this time, but that's not how it works. I won't speak selfishly anymore!" While she hasn't completely overcome that side of herself yet, she's aware that it exists and is sincerely trying to better herself.
But the short of it all is, Mimi is an ordinary girl dealing with some very extraordinary circumstances. And honestly? She's doing pretty damn well.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ She's sincere. Mimi holds the Crest of Sincerity, which means her greatest virtue is being true to herself.
+ She's compassionate. Mimi cares deeply about all of her friends, as well as about just about anyone else who is in trouble.
+ She's good with children. Mimi often seems to be on the same wavelength as the youngest member of the Chosen Children, seven-year-old Takeru.
+ She's becoming self-aware. As her journey progresses, Mimi is getting an idea of her faults and is working to overcome them.
+ She's an excellent singer.
+/- She can be manipulative. Several Digimon are attracted to her during her time in the Digital World, and while she finds them unpleasant, she recognizes her influence on them and is able to exert it to get what she wants. This may be underhanded, but it works.
+/- She's pacifistic. If there is a way to resolve a problem without fighting, you can bet Mimi will try to seek it out. But if there isn't a way, expect her to get upset.
- She's blunt. This is the downside of sincerity: Mimi will always speak her mind, even when what's on her mind isn't necessarily polite or helpful. She doesn't like you? She has no problem telling you to your face. She's tired? She'll complain about it. A lot.
- She's spoiled. While she's not a brat or anything, Mimi is very used to creature comforts. Expect her to be craving a bath or a soda at the most inconvenient times.
- She can be selfish. As seen in the whole princess debacle, if you give Mimi an inch, she will take a mile. If she wants something and is capable of getting it, by god she is going to have it. She also gets frustrated and impatient when people whom she believes should be paying attention to her don't.
- She has very little stamina. Do not expect her to walk for hours on end. She just can't do it.
- She tends to break down or shut down when things get too overwhelming.

Third Person Sample:
When Mimi wakes up - in a real bed, with sheets and everything! - her first thought is that they've done it. They've made it back to the real world, and now she's in her own home, in her own bed, and it doesn't matter what Vamdemon's about to throw at them, everything is going to be fine now. She closes her eyes and drifts off for a few more blissful moments of sleep -
Her eyes snap open. This is not her own bed.
Mimi looks around at the unfamiliar room, at the posters and paraphernalia displaying unfamiliar creatures (Digimon? She doesn't recognize any of them), and her eyes come to light on a green plant-like creature in the corner of the room. For a second, her face brightens. "Palmon, is that you? Oh, thank goodness! I was so worried I was alone here - do you know where we are?"
Palmon turns to face her, and oh no, Palmon - "What happened to you?" Mimi gasps. She's about the right color and size, but everything else is wrong. She's all spiky, the ivy on her arms is gone, and her feet have disappeared completely. The flower on her head is now two flowers, and she's not saying anything, just staring quizzically at Mimi with her new yellow eyes.
"Say something!" Mimi cries.
Palmon opens her mouth. "Maractus mar marac?"
Mimi screams.
It's around this moment that the door opens.
-----
Several minutes later, with one final push from the woman calling herself her mother (but she's not her mama, she's not, she's not), Mimi stumbles out the door. Palmon hops after her, holding a bag that Mimi's "mother" is yelling after her not to forget. As Mimi turns, intending to give this woman a piece of her mind, the door clicks shut in her face.
"Ugh!" Mimi bangs on the door and, when this proves fruitless, kicks it for good measure. She then sits down on the ground to nurse her foot, Palmon hovering worriedly.
"I hate this place!" Mimi wails. "I hate how every time something good happens, it ends up being a total trap! Why can't I just go home already?"
Palmon nudges her, and even though she still isn't talking, Mimi has an idea of what she's trying to say.
"You're right, Palmon. I shouldn't be feeling sorry for myself. I should be trying to find Taichi-san and the others... Um, I don't suppose you have any idea where they are, do you?"
In reply, Palmon pushes the bag towards her. Mimi rummages hurriedly through its contents - these aren't her clothes (though they are cute), and what in the world are those weird ball things? - until she finds her Digivice. She pulls the Digivice out, hoping to get a signal, but the screen is stubbornly blank. It's around then that she notices what looks like a pink cell phone. The phone isn't hers, of course, but at this point she's willing to try anything. Mimi grabs it and flips it open.
